Description
Exceedingly Rare Russian Double Ducat
Elizabeth gold "St. Andrew" 2 Ducat 1749 VF Details (Damaged)
NGC, Moscow mint, KM-C34.1, Bitkin-12 (R3), Fr-110. 6.84gm. St.
Andrew Reverse. Mintage: 600. An immense rarity of Russian
numismatics, an original strike of this storied Trade issue of
Double Ducat weight has surfaced at auction only twice during this
Millennium, both auctions occurring in Russia; the last appearance
outside of Russia was the Fuchs Collection specimen offered by
Sotheby's in 1996. These non-Novodel pieces appear to have
circulated heavily, as the few images of the past examples from
auction records we could find almost all indicate evidence of wear
and/or damage. The surfaces on this representative seem to have
been smoothed slightly but the remaining detail of the designs is
thoroughly adequate and the structural integrity of the coin is
intact. The small "C" punch below Elizabeth's bust is very likely
the collector mark from Count Emmerich Hutten-Czapski, found on
many Russian rarities of this era. We are thrilled to offer this
exceptionally special selection that is bound to attract the most
serious and passionate collectors of Russian numismatics. From the Geneva Collection

VF Details (Damaged) NGC。
