Rare Early Nicholas I Proof Pattern 2 Kopecks
Nicholas I Proof Pattern 2 Kopecks 1828-C.П.Б. PR66 Red and Brown NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bitkin-918 (R2), Brekke-137 (RR)m Petrov 25 Roubles, . Obv. Crowned double-headed eagle with date below. Rev. Crowned value in wreath. An exceptional example of this exceedingly rare Pattern issue in Gem Proof condition. The strike is flawless and the fields fully mirrored, with considerable golden red luster remaining. This is the finest certified example of only 4-5 known pieces (Proof and UNC). Sincona had a Proof, and an UNC example in their October 2014 sale of the Sincona Collection. The Proof sold for $26,000, and the UNC sold for $35,000.
