Description

Diakov Plate Example

Peter I gold "Death" Medal 1725-Dated AU50 NGC, Diakov-63.10 (R4, this medal pictured). 32mm. 13.75gm. This version of Peter the Great's "Death Medal" is roughly of 4 Ducat weight, but is the smallest format of those listed in Diakov. The reverse scene is beautifully depicted, using symbolism to commemorate some of the the Czar's legacies: the expansion of the Russian empire, industrialization, and the promotion of reforms in education, medicine, science, and art. Rarely does any size of this commemorative issue appear on the market in gold, but we could find no other public records of this particular 4 Ducat rendition in recent history. It is the only one of its kind certified by NGC, with none being represented by PCGS. From a close inspection of the plate specimen for this Diakov listing, we feel comfortable noting that the Medal on offer here appears to be that particular piece. Mild wear accompanies this specimen, possibly being carried as a prized memento in someone's pocket roughly three centuries ago. An extraordinary opportunity for Peter the Great enthusiasts to acquire a major rarity from the Czar's medallic portfolio.

Diakov
