Peter III gold Novodel Ducat 1762-CПБ MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-N74, Bitkin-H6 (R3), Fr-128. Plain Edge. 3.40gm. A magnificent Novodel specimen of this rare Trade issue featuring Peter III. Our research indicates this type surfaces at public auction about once a decade, at best, so we expect competition for this lovely example to be intense. Milled edge Novodels exist as well, but they are extremely scarce too. This is another piece that can be traced directly to the Hesselgesser Collection, dispersed by Ira & Larry Goldberg in the first decade of this century; the coin then resided in a PCGS holder of the same grade. The caramel complexion is enhanced by boisterous, flashy luster that yields a gold-foil aesthetic, very satisfying to the eye. This offering will be of prime importance to Novodel enthusiasts, Peter III specialists, and Trade coinage collectors; may the most impassioned bidder be victorious.
