Sophia as Regent for Ivan V & Peter I gold Novodel 4 Ducats ND (1682-1689) MS61 NGC, Fr-65, Diakov-N1. 13.22gm. The Imperial double eagle design seen here and on other multiple Ducat issues under Sophia (as Regent) is in contrast to the singular and fractional Ducat issues that utilize portrait designs of Sophia and the young co-Emperors Ivan V and Peter I that were still in their minority. Peter the Great would eventually seize control of Russia from his half-sister Sophia upon his maturity, officially becoming the sole Czar following his half-brother Ivan V's death in 1696. This 4 Ducat version is the most significant weight of all the gold Novodels for the type, not rare but certainly not common by any means. One of only three NGC certified problem-free examples of the 4 Ducat, not overly brilliant at the present assignment, but highly appreciable nonetheless.
