Description
(2001) $50 SSCA Relic Gold Medal "1855 Kellogg & Co. Fifty" Gem Proof PCGS. Struck on September 10, 2001, with a proof mintage for that date of 153 pieces. This 2.5-ounce round restrike from 2001 contains 887 Fine gold, obtained from melted-down Kellogg & Humbert ingots recovered from the 1857 wreck of the S.S. Central America. A flawless example with glassy butter-gold fields, still housed in the mauve and gold insert PCGS holder of its initial issue.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 10358)
