Description

Popular Superb Gem 2000-P 'Cheerios' Dollar

2000-P $1 Cheerios MS67 PCGS. FS-901, though listed as FS-401 on the holder. This is one of the 5,500 2000-P Sacagawea dollars randomly placed inside Cheerios-brand cereal products during a 2000 General Mills advertising promotion. The 5,500 coins were struck with a reverse die produced from a different hub than that used for the regular issue Sacs. The "Cheerios" variety coins show greater definition on the eagle's tail feathers, and the line on the central tail feather is raised, whereas it is incuse on the regular issue coins (Paul Gilkes, " 'Cheerios' 2000-P Dollars Have Different Reverse," Coin World, July 4, 2005).
This Superb Gem displays gorgeous brass-gold surfaces and radiant luster. A well executed strike imparts bold definition to the design elements, and both faces are virtually flawless. A small as-made indentation is visible in the right obverse field.
This lot also includes a 2000 Cheerios Lincoln Cent, MS66 Red PCGS, that was part of the same promotion. Both sides exhibit copper-gold luster and razor-sharp motifs. A few minor spots at the margins do not unduly detract from the pleasing eye appeal.
