Impressive 2000-P 'Cheerios' Dollar, MS68

2000-P $1 Cheerios MS68 PCGS. FS-901, although listed as FS-401 on the PCGS holder. The coin drop in 2000 put 5,500 Sacagawea dollars of that date in specially marked boxes of Cheerios cereal. At first, it was considered a mere publicity stunt, until sharp-eyed collectors realized that the coins were struck from a slightly modified design that was different than the regular production issues. It was in June 2005 that collector Pat Braddick noticed his dollar was from a slightly different reverse hub. Did the Mint produce coins from this modified design on purpose? The present piece is a brilliant and bold example that is tied for the finest PCGS has certified. The bright yellow surfaces of this "golden dollar" are pristine and virtually perfect. Population: 15 in 68, 0 finer (4/09).
