While the 1907 circulation-strike Saint-Gaudens double eagle is a far cry from the visionary designer's original concept, the type as modified by Charles Barber is an essential element in both a complete 20th century type set and as a memento of one of the most significant periods in U.S. coinage history. Attractive luster radiates from both sides of this yellow-gold Gem striking. Except for a small luster graze in the left obverse field, this piece might merit an even finer grade.
