Lovely Near-Gem 1908 Motto Double Eagle

1908 $20 Motto MS64 PCGS. In contrast to the No Motto version struck earlier in the year, the 1908 Motto pieces have a much lower mintage of 156,200 pieces and a significantly worse survival rate in better Mint State grades. A touch of haze visits the strongly lustrous yellow-orange surfaces of this near-Gem, which shows a handful of minor, yet grade-defining marks on the well struck devices. PCGS has graded 50 finer examples (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
