Description

1908-S Double Eagle, MS62
Boldly Struck and Highly Collectible

1908-S $20 MS62 PCGS. With only 22,000 pieces struck, the 1908-S was formerly considered even more elusive than it is today -- although it remains scarce, with many collectors quite proud to own an example in any grade. As is the story with many mintmarked issues in particular, more are available now than formerly known due to repatriations from overseas hoards. This MS62 specimen is boldly struck, highly lustrous, and offers surprisingly good eye appeal thanks to a ring of amber-gold at the rims surrounding lustrous, orange-gold centers. A sprinkling of scattered, trivial marks keeps this coin from an even finer grade. Sharply defined at the Capitol Building and at the stars, the coin displays sharp definition at Liberty's hair tresses and fully formed fingers grasp the torch. Population: 87 in 62 (2 in 62+), 92 finer (9/24).(Registry values: N4719)
