1909/8 Twenty Dollar, MS65
Important
Guide Book Overdate

1909/8 $20 FS-301 MS65 PCGS. Edgar Adams reported this variety in the May-June 1910 issue of The Numismatist. It has since become quite accessible as a variety in most grades, although it is typically seen in MS63 and lower Mint State levels. Gems are rare, and demand for these pieces is heightened by the status of the 1909/8 as the only major Guide Book variety in the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series.

The present coin displays warm orange-gold patina and satiny cartwheel luster. Some faint, tiny surface marks prevent an even finer grade, but the eye appeal of this piece is outstanding as it is. Slight strike softness on the torch is noted, but the design elements are otherwise well brought up.
