Description

Appealing MS62 1909/8 Double Eagle

1909/8 $20 MS62 NGC. FS-301. Judging from the current population data, it appears that the 1909 double eagles were about evenly split between the nonoverdate and overdate varieties, even though we also believe that just one die pair was used for all of the overdates. The jury is still out on this point, although we have noticed most examples have the same small die crack on the reverse, running obliquely through the lower part of (G)O(D). The moderate ticks seen on both sides are consistent with the MS62 grade, but much appeal radiates along with the luster off of the orange-gold surfaces.(Registry values: N1793)
