Description

Pursued 1909/8 Double Eagle, MS63

1909/8 $20 MS63 PCGS. FS-301. The most obvious of all 20th century gold overdates, from the same mint error category as the 1918/7-D nickel, 1918/7-S quarter, 1943/2-P nickel, and 1942/1 and 1942/1-D dimes. Hubs with two different dates were used to create the obverse die, which presumably was made close to New Year's day. This lustrous yellow-gold example exhibits the small marks expected of the grade, although the obverse in particular is attractive.(Registry values: N2998)
