Appealing MS64 1909/8 Twenty Dollar
1909/8 $20 MS64 PCGS. FS-301. In its own way, the 1909/8 double eagle is a throwback to the overdates found in America's early gold coinage; since there were very few die pairs used to strike the double eagles of 1909, the one overdated obverse accounts for a large number of 1909-dated Philadelphia survivors, as many as half according to some estimates. This is a highly attractive near-Gem example with strong and swirling luster that enlivens deep yellow-gold fields. Below the eagle's neck is a faint copper spot that adds interest to the area. Minimally marked for the grade with great eye appeal. PCGS has certified 17 finer pieces (4/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 9151, GSID# 10162)
