Description

Notably Lustrous 1909/8 Twenty, MS65

1909/8 $20 MS65 PCGS. The only overdate in the Saint-Gaudens series, the 1909/8 is a popular issue that is also of considerable rarity as a Gem. The obverse die was a holdover from the 1908 No Motto issue, and most representatives of this overdate variety are softly defined on the portrait of Liberty. On the other hand, this coin is well struck throughout with swirling mint luster. The surfaces exhibit a rich, frosty texture, and there are no abrasions of note. For pedigree purposes, a single copper-colored toning spot is seen at the intersection of the eagle's tail and the reverse rim. A reddish-gold Gem that offers both condition rarity and superior eye appeal. Population: 14 in 65, 3 finer (8/08).(Registry values: N7079)
