Flashy Gem 1909-D Twenty

1909-D $20 MS65 PCGS. Branch mint production of double eagles was often feast-or-famine during the early years of the Saint-Gaudens design, and the 1909-D was decidedly on the "famine" end of things with just 52,500 pieces struck. This Gem example is an upper-echelon survivor, lightly patinated with delightful yellow-to-orange luster across each side. Marks are mostly trivial, and the only hint of a concentration appears on the disc of the sun on the reverse. Well struck with great all-around eye appeal. PCGS has certified just 15 MS65 examples and only five finer (5/10).(Registry values: N7079)
