Description
1911 Double Eagle, MS64+
Scarce Any Finer
1911 $20 MS64+ PCGS Secure. Roger W. Burdette writes in
Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles as Illustrated by the Phillip H.
Morse and Stephen Duckor Collections: "Most 1911 double eagles
apparently were shipped to Europe although it is unlikely any were
shipped until after the year of manufacture. The overwhelming
majority of authenticated and graded coins fall in the low to
mid-Uncirculated rage -- generally MS63 or below." This near-Gem is
decidedly above-average and razor-sharp with radiant mint frost
over clean yellow-gold surfaces. A single hit on the second 1 in
the date merits mention.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FJ, PCGS# 9157, Greysheet# 10138)
