Description

Lustrous MS66 1911-S Twenty

1911-S $20 MS66 NGC. A conditionally elusive coin, the 1911-S is widely available in the lower Mint State grades. NGC has certified several thousand examples in MS62, MS63, and MS64. In MS65, however, only 249 Gems are graded, and in MS66 the number drops to 36, with one (an MS66 ★ piece) finer. This may be surprising, given the generous original mintage of more than three-quarters of a million pieces, and little evidence of the wholesale meltings that would afflict many later issues in the series. The present piece offers orange-gold, untroubled surfaces with excellent luster and premium appeal. Census: 35 in 66, 0 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N4719)
