1911-S Double Eagle, MS66
Nearly Unknown Finer
1911-S $20 MS66 PCGS. Virtually all of the 775,750-piece
1911-S mintage was sent abroad -- 450,000 pieces were shipped to
Europe, and 250,000 went to South America. According to research by
Roger Burdette, more than 11,000 1911-S twenties were repatriated
in recent decades for a total of about 14,000 surviving examples.
This is an especially attractive Premium Gem survivor, with smooth
and colorful orange-gold surfaces and a sharp San Francisco strike.
There are no marks of any significance to diminish the outstanding
eye appeal. Population: 66 in 66 (3 in 66+), 1 finer
