Description

1911-S Double Eagle, MS66
Nearly Unknown Finer

1911-S $20 MS66 PCGS. Virtually all of the 775,750-piece 1911-S mintage was sent abroad -- 450,000 pieces were shipped to Europe, and 250,000 went to South America. According to research by Roger Burdette, more than 11,000 1911-S twenties were repatriated in recent decades for a total of about 14,000 surviving examples. This is an especially attractive Premium Gem survivor, with smooth and colorful orange-gold surfaces and a sharp San Francisco strike. There are no marks of any significance to diminish the outstanding eye appeal. Population: 66 in 66 (3 in 66+), 1 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FL, PCGS# 9159, Greysheet# 10168)
