Description
1912 Double Eagle, MS64
Colorful Eye Appeal
1912 $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1912 issue was modified to recognize
Arizona and New Mexico as U.S. states by adding two new stars below
the date near the oak leaves. The 1912 is also significant due to
Philadelphia being the only Mint that produced double eagles that
year with just struck 149,750 pieces struck. Surfaces of luxurious
olive-gold mix energetically with frosty luster to deliver
exceptional eye appeal. A loupe reveals numerous but minor obverse
abrasions, and just a few spots on the eagle. Mint State examples
have reasonable availability through MS64, but finer pieces become
challenging with PCGS reporting only 63 numerically finer
(4/25).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FM, PCGS# 9160, Greysheet# 10139)
