Description

1913-D Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS66
No Numerically Finer Examples Certified

1913-D $20 MS66 NGC. Research by Roger Burdette indicates about 12,000 pieces survive for the 1913-D double eagle from a moderately low 393,500-piece mintage. Most of the issue is found in lower Mint State grades. Burdette reports, "...there is a distinct drop-off in availability at the Gem level, and at the MS66 level the coin is almost unavailable. We doubt many actual coins exist in this grade." A crisp Denver Mint strike accompanies the satin-smooth surfaces of this lustrous Premium Gem example. Marks are limited to a handful of tiny, inconsequential ticks on Liberty's shin and gown, plus a few equally minimal, light field abrasions of absolutely minor notice under magnification. The exquisite eye appeal is wholly unaffected. NGC reports no numerically finer examples and only two pieces in 66+. NGC Census: 16 in 66 (2 in 66+), 0 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N1)
