Splendid Gem 1914 Twenty
1914 $20 MS65 PCGS. The circulation strike mintage is on the low side at 95,200 coins in this first year of World War I, but fortunately enough piece survived the mass meltings of later dates that today the issue is still available up to Gem grade, with an occasional piece even finer. The population data, however, thin out markedly--by an order of magnitude or more--above the MS65 level. This splendid Gem offers cascading cartwheel luster emanating from both sides. The orange-gold surfaces are mattelike and well-struck, and just a couple of nicks on Liberty's exposed thighs are in line with the grade. The reverse is choice for the grade. Population: 36 in 65, 3 finer (7/08).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FS, PCGS# 9164, GSID# 10141)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 33.44 grams
AGW: 0.9675oz
Mintage: 95,250
