Description
1914-S Double Eagle, MS66+
Tied for Finest at PCGS
1914-S $20 MS66+ PCGS. From a mintage of almost 1.5 million
pieces about a million of those went to Europe, where most were
used for interbank transfers. Others went to Japan as well as
Central and South America. Only about 1,500 1914-S double eagles
were released for domestic circulation. The issue is readily
collectible at the MS65 grade level, but it becomes elusive in
finer grades. This Plus-graded Premium Gem is among the
finest-certified examples at PCGS, with sharply detailed design
elements throughout and impeccably preserved greenish-gold surfaces
that radiate vibrant mint luster from both sides. Overall eye
appeal is terrific. Population: 8 in 66+, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FU, PCGS# 9166, GSID# 10172)
