Description

Condition Rarity 1915 Double Eagle, MS65

1915 $20 MS65 NGC. The mintage of this issue was rather low with only 152,000 pieces made for circulation, yet NGC/PCGS population figures reveal the 1915 to be relatively plentiful at the MS62 and MS63 levels of preservation. The numbers taper off in near-Gem, and MS65s are elusive with only 71 such pieces certified by both services. Higher-grade specimens are nearly unobtainable.
This MS65 piece displays peach-gold coloration tinted with light green. The luster is frosty and pleasing, and a well executed strike imparts strong detail to the design features. A few grade-consistent marks along with an unobtrusive obverse alloy spot do not detract. Census: 39 in 65, 1 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)
