Description
Better-Date 1916-S Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS65
1916-S $20 MS65 NGC. CAC. A substantial mintage of 796,000 Saint-Gaudens double eagles was achieved at the San Francisco Mint in 1916, the only twenty dollar coinage for the year, and the last at any facility until 1920. The issue was present in a Central American hoard in 1983, but those coins have been absorbed, and the 1916-S is considered a slightly better date today. The present coin exhibits exquisite mint luster with remarkably clean fields and a few light handling marks on the eagle's wings. Attractive, even orange-gold patina is seen over each side.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FX, PCGS# 9169, GSID# 10174)
