1916-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, MS66
1916-S $20 MS66 NGC. From a substantial mintage of 796,000 pieces, the 1916-S Saint-Gaudens double eagle is an available date in all grades up to MS65. The issue becomes scarce in MS66, and prohibitively rare in any higher grade. The present coin is a spectacular specimen, with a sharp strike and vibrant mint luster. A couple of short, insignificant scratches above the eagle's head are the only detectable marks. Only three coins have been certified in higher numeric grades, all at NGC (3/10).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26FX, PCGS# 9169, GSID# 10174)
