Description

Splendid 1920 Double Eagle, MS64
Impossibly Rare in Gem Grade

1920 $20 MS64 PCGS. One single coin. That is the number of Gem examples of the 1920 double eagle that PCGS has certified finer than the present piece, one of several hundred MS64 coins at that service. [NGC has certified seven coins in MS65 (9/09).] The 1920 would garner no special attention were it not for the skewed population data, which lead Garrett and Guth to call the 1920 "probably the most underrated gem in the entire series." This splendid MS64 coin offers glowing luster throughout the orange-gold surfaces on both sides. A random smattering of small marks is characteristic of the grade, although we note a somewhat blunt strike on Liberty's face and a small die crack through LIBERT. The reverse is choice for the grade.(Registry values: N2998)
