Description

1922 Double Eagle, MS66
Radiant Mint Luster
Among the Finest Known

1922 $20 MS66 PCGS. Although many 1922 double eagles escaped the 1930s gold melts and the surviving population is substantial, remarkably few examples exceed the MS65 grade. MS66 is the pinnacle for the issue -- seldom seen, with fewer than three dozen coins certified as Premium Gems by PCGS and NGC combined. This is one of the few, with a sharp strike that weakens only briefly at the lowest stars. A sprinkling of deep-orange alloy accents visit both sides, with olive-gold highlights throughout the frosted orange-gold surfaces. A few tiny marks are confined to Liberty's gown folds and the eagle's plumage. Bold mint luster radiates from both sides. Population: 15 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (6/23).(Registry values: N4719)
