1923-D $20 MS67 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Fox. The 1923-D Saint-Gaudens double eagle was produced in large numbers and many of the coins were shipped to South American destinations before the Gold Recall of 1933. Coins in South and Central American holdings tended to suffer less from transport and recounting than coins in European banks. As a result, when large numbers of Saint-Gaudens double eagles were repatriated in later years, the 1923-D became an available issue in high grade.

The present coin is a magnificent Superb Gem, with sharply detailed design elements and vivid orange-gold surfaces that show no mentionable flaws. Radian mint luster and outstanding eye appeal are the calling cards of this delightful specimen. This CAC-endorsed Superb Gem will be a welcome addition to the finest collection or Registry Set. The 1923-D is one of the half dozen commonest dates in the entire Saint-Gaudens series. The vast majority of known specimens are uncirculated and many of the uncs, if not most of them, are choice or gem quality and are characterized by excellent strike, lustre and color. Many superb uncirculated examples of this date also exist. From the standpoint of sheer beauty, the 1923-D is at the of of the list as far as Saint-Gaudens twenties are concerned.
