Description
Outstanding Superb Gem 1923-D Twenty
1923-D $20 MS67 PCGS. CAC. Fortunately for type collectors, a fairly substantial portion of the Mint State population of this D-mint issue has survived in Gem condition. Why this should be the case for the 1923-D, while other issues are predominantly bagmarked or scuffed, is likely to be a topic for spirited discussion among Saint-Gaudens double eagle enthusiasts. The 1923-D is one of the best-produced of the available issues in the Saint-Gaudens series, and all of those attributes are on full display on this Superb example. The surfaces boast an intense satiny sheen, crisp definition, and terrific yellow-gold color with slightly deeper orange-golden peripheral accents. This piece is in a tie for the finest certified by PCGS (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26G6, PCGS# 9176, GSID# 10177)
