Impressive Superb Gem 1924 Double Eagle

1924 $20 MS67 NGC. The 1924 is believed to be one of the most available dates of the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series. Indeed, NGC and PCGS have graded several thousand examples through Premium Gem. The certified population declines precipitously at the Superb Gem level, however. The yellow-gold surfaces of this MS67 specimen display magnificent luster and are impeccably preserved. A few minor rim ticks (typical for most large gold coins) are mentioned only for complete accuracy. A well executed strike delivers sharp definition to the design elements, rounding out the coin's impressive eye appeal. NGC has seen only two pieces finer, and PCGS one better (7/09).(Registry values: N4719)
