Description

1924 Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS67
Impeccably Preserved

1924 $20 MS67 PCGS. The 1924 Saint-Gaudens double eagle claims a large mintage of 4.3 million pieces and much of the large production was used to make international payments near the time of issue. Thousands of high-quality examples have been repatriated over the years, making the issue available in all grades up through the MS66 level. The 1924 becomes scarce in MS67 condition, and finer coins are prime condition rarities.

This delightful Superb Gem exhibits well-detailed design elements and impeccably preserved orange-gold surfaces that radiate vibrant mint luster from both sides. Overall eye appeal is terrific. PCGS has graded one numerically finer example (2/20).

David Akers (2008) Comments:

The 1924 handily outdistances all other issues in this series to rank as the most common Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Tens of thousands of examples have been repatriated from foreign banks over the years, and the issue is readily obtainable in all Mint State grades up to and including MS66. While Superb Gems are genuinely scarce, the 1924 is easier to obtain in MS67 than any other Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle with the sole exception of the 1908 No Motto.
