Description

1924 Double Eagle, MS67
Exceptional Strike Sharpness

1924 $20 MS67 PCGS. It is hard to envision the 1924 Saint-Gaudens double eagle as anything but a common-date twenty. In most grades, that assessment is true. The average die pair struck about 40,600 pieces, and 115 die pairs were used to strike the 4.3 million-piece mintage, from which more than 1.2 million pieces survive. It is only at the highest grade levels that the 1924 double eagle becomes scarce. Superb Gems at the MS67 grade are available for a price, yet any finer the 1924 issue is extremely rare. This outstanding orange-gold example is original and pinpoint sharp. A few tiny, dot-like ticks exist, although the fields are essentially unabraded. Frosty mint luster glows throughout the deeply impressed motifs. It is worth noting PCGS reports only one numerically finer 1924 example, plus 11 coins in 67+ (11/24).(Registry values: N4719)
