Description
Excellent 1924-D Double Eagle, MS63
1924-D $20 MS63 PCGS. Garrett and Guth point out that the D-mint double eagles made in 1924 "sat around" in banks except for a few thousand shipped overseas, so those that stayed in the United States were available for melting in that great extinction event, the Gold Recall of 1933. Most of the survivors, for the most part in the lower Mint State levels, appear to have been repatriated by now. This piece has excellent eye appeal for the grade, a function of generous luster and mellow orange-gold coloration. Moderate high-point abrasions are consistent with the Select grade.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26G8, PCGS# 9178, GSID# 10178)
