Description

Scarce 1924-D Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS63
High Mintage/ Low Survival Rate

1924-D $20 MS63 PCGS. The 1924-D Saint-Gaudens double eagle is an issue that illustrates the high mintage/low surviving population phenomenon so prevalent in the series. In spite of the hefty mintage of 3 million pieces, the 1924-D is quite scarce in Mint State today. Most coins were probably held in domestic banks as reserves and melted in the 1930s. This MS63 example offers flashy luster over orange-gold surfaces, with a few minor abrasions consistent with the grade.(Registry values: N2998)
