Description

1924-D Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS64
Only 11 Finer Coins at PCGS

1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. CAC. After being celebrated as a great rarity in the 1940s, the 1924-D Saint-Gaudens double eagle was discovered in several small European hoards in the 1950s, and its rank in the rarity tables declined accordingly. However, only a relatively small number of coins was discovered, and the 1924-D is still the 11th rarest date of the 53-coin series in high grade. The present coin is an attractive Choice example with vivid orange and rose-gold surfaces and vibrant mint luster. The central design elements are sharply rendered, but peripheral elements show a touch of softness. PCGS has graded only 11 examples in higher numeric grades (3/18).
