    Description

    1924-D Double Eagle, MS64+
    Semikey Mintmarked Issue
    Rare Any Finer

1924-D $20 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. The 1924-D remains a prime Saint-Gaudens rarity in high Uncirculated grades, despite an infusion of lesser Mint State pieces from various small hoards and isolated European repatriates that give the 1924-D a reputation for availability among other "elite" mintmarked Saints. President Roosevelt's Gold Recall eliminated nearly the entire 3 million+ mintage, although perhaps 1,200 or so pieces survive in all grades.

This Plus-graded and CAC-endorsed near-Gem stands head and shoulders above most 1924-Ds. Vibrantly lustrous, orange-gold surfaces display a sharp strike and only a few isolated, tiny ticks. The frosted surfaces appear smooth and crisply detailed in-hand, with only a touch of weakness at the Capitol dome. Just a dozen coins are certified numerically finer at PCGS. Population: 13 in 64+, 12 finer. CAC: 15 in 64, 3 finer (5/19).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 34VF, PCGS# 9178)

    Weight: 33.44 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
