Description

Important 1924-D Double Eagle, MS64

1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1924-D is a median rarity in the Saint-Gaudens series, of comparable rarity to the 1925-D and 1926-S. The issue is generally found in the range from AU55 to MS62, although near-Gems and Gems are occasionally available. This piece represents an important opportunity for the advanced date and mintmark collector. The surfaces possess almost the same luster characteristics as the famous 1923-D. Rich rose-golden patina swirls around both sides, with intermittent dashes of pale lilac. Only a couple of abrasions keep this lovely piece from the Gem level: a pair of marks to the right of Liberty's head, and another across the drapery near the knee. An opportunity for the collector to acquire this difficult issue with exceptional surface preservation and luster. PCGS has certified only 11 examples finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
