Description
Scarce Choice 1924-D Saint-Gaudens Twenty
1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. Despite a sizeable mintage of 3 million coins, the 1924-D is one of the premier rarities in the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series. This issue is of comparable overall rarity to the 1925-D and 1926-S, all of which apparently suffered widespread melting at the hands of the federal government. Intense, golden patina intermingles with soft orange iridescence to present a mosaic of numismatic beauty. There are a few small abrasions on the obverse and reverse, but the number of distractions is typically minimal for the grade. With radiant cartwheel luster and above average striking quality, this coin's technical quality adequately complements its eye appeal.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26G8, PCGS# 9178, GSID# 10178)
