Description

Scarce 1924-S Double Eagle, MS63

1924-S $20 MS63 PCGS. An important date in the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series, despite one of the largest mintages in the series. Almost 3 million examples were minted at the San Francisco Mint in 1924, but few of those were actually released. The majority remained in Mint or Treasury vaults to meet the fate in the government melting pot of the 1930s. This piece is a pleasing light yellow example with traces of pale pink and green patina. The surfaces have minor grade-consistent marks.(Registry values: N2998)
