Description

1924-S Double Eagle, MS64
Tied for Finest With CAC

1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Although at one time the 1924-S double eagle was considered among the rarest and most desirable Saint-Gaudens issues, today, thanks to the repatriations of numerous small hoards located overseas, there are a sufficient number of coins in the numismatic marketplace to satisfy the needs of the collecting community. Like most examples of this issue, the present example offers a bold strike, save for some localized softness on Liberty's right (facing) arm. Both sides offer coruscant luster emanating from orange-gold surfaces. The die shows a few signs of fatigue in the form of a light die crack through the top of Liberty's head and some rim crumbling on the reverse. CAC: 30 in 64, 0 finer (3/22).
