Description
1924-S Double Eagle, MS64
Rare in Higher Grades
1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS. While the Philadelphia issue of this
date is common, the San Francisco coin is quite scarce in high
grade, being rarely seen above MS64. Most of the more than 2.9
million coins struck were melted in the mid-1930s, never having
been distributed to a significant extent through the federal
reserve banks to public commerce. Most of the pieces known today
came through official channels in small numbers, and a number of
pieces also turned up in overseas holdings beginning in the 1950s.
These coins make the issue collectible today, though challenging.
This well-struck piece shows deep peach-gold luster and good eye
appeal for the grade. Some small abrasions are noted as
expected.(Registry values: N4719)From The KRGJ Collection.
