Description
Fabulous MS64 1924-S Double Eagle
1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS Secure. CAC. The year 1924 in Saint-Gaudens coinage is illustrative of a pattern that would affect several subsequent dates: an amply available Philadelphia issue, coupled with heavily melted Denver and San Francisco emissions. Only a relative handful of 1924-S double eagles have survived to the present day, certainly fewer than 1% of examples struck. This is a better coin among those survivors, richly lustrous with a strong orange-gold cast and glimpses of silver-lavender on and near Liberty's figure. A handful of light, scattered abrasions combine to account for the grade. Population: 95 in 64, 3 finer (1/12).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26G9, PCGS# 9179, Greysheet# 10179)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
