Description
Upper-End MS64 1924-S Twenty
An Important Absolute and Condition Rarity
1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS. One of the legendary rarities in the
Saint-Gaudens series, the 1924-S was apparently one of the most
heavily melted issues as very few coins are known today. Only a few
scattered pieces have been found since 1953 in Europe, and no
sizeable hoards have been reported. The mint luster is thick and
heavily frosted with greenish-gold and orange hues. Sharply defined
in all areas, the surfaces are remarkably clean with no mentionable
abrasions or alloy spots. Fewer than 200 coins have been seen at
both PCGS and NGC in MS64 (minus the usual resubmissions). An MS64
1924-S is the finest coin most collectors will have an opportunity
to own. Above that, only 22 coins have been graded. As such, this
is a coin that should be carefully inspected by the advanced
collector.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26G9, PCGS# 9179, GSID# 10179)
