Description

Pleasing 1924-S Gem Double Eagle

1924-S $20 MS65 NGC. The 1924-S twenty dollar, despite heavy melting of the issue in the 1930s, can be located through the MS63 grade level with a little patient searching. Near-Gems, on the other hand, are quite scarce and Gems are an important condition rarity. Most collectors will not encounter anything finer.
Attractive mint luster emanates from both sides of this MS65 specimen, the peach-gold surfaces of which are imbued with hints of mint-green. The devices exhibit strong definition, including the peripheral lettering, elements that are often weak. The few minuscule marks present exist primarily on the reverse. In summary, this piece displays pleasing overall eye appeal. Census: 19 in 65, 1 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N7079)
