    Description

One of Three Finest Known 1925-D Double Eagles

1925-D $20 MS66 PCGS. A magnificently preserved example of this highly collectible, mintmarked double eagle issue from the mid-1920s. Close examination reveals satiny surfaces that exhibit above average luster for the issue. A moderate overlay of variegated reddish-gold is intermixed with subtle lime-gold colorations over each side. Some minor die deterioration is noted, particularly at the obverse periphery, but overall, this example remains well defined and far above average for the date. A few minor abrasions can be seen, none are overly offensive. The most visible one is on the eagle's lowest feathers near its leg, several small ones are on or near Liberty's legs. The D mintmark leans slightly to the right. A few degrees of clockwise die rotation are also noted. Population by both services combined: 3 in 66, none are finer (9/05).
