Description
1925-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, AU58
Heavily Melted Branch Mint Issue
1925-S $20 AU58 NGC. One of the challenging mintmarked
issues from the mid-1920s, the 1925-S saw nearly its entire mintage
wiped out by the 1930s Gold Recall. More than 3.4 million pieces of
the 3.7 million original mintage are confirmed lost to melting.
Most of the remaining mintage circulated domestically, since only
500 or so examples have returned from foreign holdings. This
still-lustrous orange-gold coin is nearly Mint State, with
remarkably unabraded surfaces from a short stint in circulation.
The strike retains its bold definition.(Registry values: N2998)From The Brittany Legacy Collection, Part I.
