Description

1925-S Twenty Dollar, MS63
Tawny-Gold Luster

1925-S $20 MS63 PCGS. CAC. The 1925-S had a rather astonishingly high mintage (a little more than 3.7 million pieces), but a majority of the issue would be melted like many other issues of this series. Most of the current coins that are available for collectors were repatriated from overseas vaults in Europe and South America. This has made the 1925-S double eagle a conditional rarity rather than an absolute scarcity for the denomination.

This example displays tawny-gold luster and displays the weakness typically present in the San Francisco Mint issue, with the usual die stress cracks. The coin is largely free from abrasions and marks, with its only notable mark being left of the olive branch. PCGS has graded 98 in 63 and five in 63+, with only 33 finer; CAC has only endorsed six in 63 with nine numerically finer (1/26).(Registry values: N4719)
