Description

Bright Select 1925-S Double Eagle

1925-S $20 MS63 PCGS. At the height of the Roaring Twenties, the San Francisco Mint turned out a record number of Saint-Gaudens double eagles, specifically 3.77 million pieces, a number exceeded only by the 1924 and 1928 Philadelphia issues. Although some examples circulated for a short period, the vast majority of the mintage was melted around 1937. This Select specimen displays pleasing, softly frosted surfaces that are well but not fully struck. A few small- to medium-sized abrasions appear on each side, but most are on the eagle. The bright orange-gold and lilac color further enhances the appeal. Population: 79 in 63, 24 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
